In perfect Florida conditions, Linus worked his way down to a 1m05.785s best around the narrow city-centre track, out-pacing a trio of Andretti Autosport drivers.
Christian Rasmussen was the closest pursuer, 0.02s off Linus’ benchmark time, with Hunter McElrea and Sting Ray Robb another tenth adrift.
Linus’ HMD Motorsports team-mates Danial Frost and Benjamin Pedersen rounded out the top six.
“It’s a good start, definitely encouraging,” says Linus. “It’s so great to be back and push to the limit around this fantastic track. I have missed this a lot! There is still a bit more to find in the car, and in the driving, so we’ll be looking to make that next step in qualifying this afternoon.”
Next up on Friday is the single qualifying session of the weekend, which will shape the grid for Sunday’s season-opening race. Qualifying takes place at 1:40 pm / 19.40.
