Linus wrapped up the 2021 Indy Lights campaign with a wet-weather masterclass to win the last race of the season at Mid-Ohio…
Taking the lead on the first lap as pole-sitter David Malukas slid off the road at the first corner in treacherous conditions, Linus was never to be headed, eventually winning by over ten seconds to score his third victory of the year.
In arguably one of the most commanding displays of the campaign, Linus finished 40 seconds clear of third-placed Benjamin Pedersen, and well over a minute ahead of newly-crowned 2021 champion Kyle Kirkwood back in fifth.
With Linus, Malukas and Pedersen locking out the podium to end the year in style, Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports also wins the 2021 teams’ championship.
LINUS: “Yes! What a way to end the season. I’m absolutely elated. Big, big thanks to the team. The car was fantastic and I’m so happy that we managed to win the teams’ title. It’s always difficult in these conditions as you need to look after the tyres and stop them from overheating, but we were able to control it pretty well. It’s the perfect ending to the season and I couldn’t be happier right now!”
Linus’ 2021 CV reads three race wins, 11 podiums, three pole positions and two fastest laps. Already cemented at the previous round at Laguna Seca, he ends his rookie Indy Lights season third in the overall standings.
More to follow in a post-weekend press release shortly.
