Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports defied the odds to bring Linus back on the grid for Race 1 at Mid-Ohio, successfully performing an engine change under significant time pressure.
Suffering an engine failure in qualifying just hours before the race, Linus was able to return to the frame and take up his slot from tenth on the grid.
A strong start enabled him to move swiftly into P6, which he retained throughout the remainder of the race – which saw the push to pass overtaking tool disabled on a non-INDYCAR weekend.
LINUS: ”The team did a fantastic job to change the engine and bring the car out on track. We knew it was going to be tough from P10, so we trimmed out the car and I think in the end we maximised what we had. A difficult day, but everyone on the team did their utmost and we’ll get a new chance tomorrow to wrap up the season in style.”
There will be an opportunity to start afresh on Sunday, with another qualifying/race double taking place to complete the weekend – and the season.
