Sweden’s Linus Lundqvist is a quadruple single-seater champion, clinching the 2022 INDY NXT championship, the 2020 Formula Regional Americas title, the 2018 BRDC British Formula 3 Championship and the 2016 Formula STCC Nordic crown. Reigning Indy Lights champion Linus Lundqvist will make a long-awaited return to action when he joins Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing for an up-coming NTT INDYCAR SERIES test next week.
Lundqvist will test for the revered RLL team at Texas Motor Speedway on Monday, April 3 – one day after this weekend’s PPG 375 INDYCAR race at the ultra-fast superspeedway.
The test will mark Lundqvist’s second-ever outing in INDYCAR machinery – the Swede having previously tested for Andretti Autosport at the Indianapolis road course in 2021 – and his first on an oval.
“I can not explain how excited I am about this test,” says Linus Lundqvist. “It’s been a long time coming and we’ve worked so hard over the winter to pursue an opportunity like this. I am grateful to Bobby Rahal and his team for giving me a day in the car to show what I can do. I’m also keen to finally try out an Indy car on an oval, and one of the fastest on the schedule at that. It will be a great day, and let’s just say I’ve been waiting for it!”
Lundqvist became the first Swedish driver in history to win INDYCAR’s main feeder series Indy Lights (subsequently rebranded as Indy NXT over the winter) last year as he swept to the title in dominant fashion.
Previously, he has also won a further three single-seater championships, storming to Formula STCC Nordic (2016), British Formula 3 (2018) and Formula Regional Americas (2020) glory to shape a remarkably gold-clad CV.
“We are pleased to have Linus run with us at Texas next week,” said RLL co-owner Bobby Rahal. “His resume speaks for itself and he certainly earned the opportunity after winning the Indy Lights championship in 2022. We will monitor his progress closely, and work with him to ensure it is a successful test for all concerned.”
Lundqvist will be on site with RLL at Texas Motor Speedway during this weekend’s PPG 375, round two of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, in preparation for his test.
