- Swede seals brace of fifth-place finishes in Budapest
- Caps off weekend with rookie victory
Linus Lundqvist returned to the top five in Euroformula Open with a couple of solid finishes this weekend at the Hungaroring.
Lundqvist came home in fifth place in each of the two races staged at the Hungarian Grand Prix track, battling back from sixth and eighth respectively on the grid to twice lead the Double R Racing charge after a couple of suboptimal qualifying sessions.
The Swede was particularly feisty in Race 2 on Sunday, crucially passing Javier Gonzalez’s RP Motorsport machine to clinch victory in the series’ rookie division.
Lundqvist leaves Budapest now holding sixth place overall in the Euroformula Open standings.
“I think all in all we can be fairly pleased with the weekend, especially the races,” says Linus Lundqvist. “The target coming here was the podium, which we didn’t manage, but I do think the pace was there for it – at least in race trim. We didn’t put qualifying together though, and that’s what hurt us here at a track notoriously difficult to overtake on. We’ve taken a step forward with the car since the last round at Spa, however, and we’re getting closer to where we want to be. I’m happy the next races are just around the corner so we can continue to build on this.”
Following the Hungarian round of the championship, the Euroformula Open campaign resumes in neighbouring Austria in just a matter of days, the field regrouping at the striking Alpine venue of Red Bull Ring next weekend (July 12-14).
