Linus Lundqvist will be back in NTT INDYCAR SERIES competition this weekend at World Wide Technology Raceway, returning to the #60 Meyer Shank Racing (MSR) Honda.
Contesting the Bommarito Automotive Group 500, Lundqvist will make his INDYCAR oval debut on the back of previous outings on the streets of Nashville and at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course.
Located in St. Louis, World Wide Technology Raceway – formerly known as Gateway – is a 1.25-mile oval featuring varying degrees of banking in each corner. Lundqvist has raced at the track twice before in INDY NXT, grabbing pole position last year.
“I’m extremely happy to be joining MSR again in St. Louis this weekend,” says Linus Lundqvist. “The last few weekends in Nashville and Indy have been the time of my life and I can’t wait to continue to work with this team. We’ve been through some challenging race formats; a street course in Nashville, a road course at Indy, and now an oval in St. Louis. There will be a lot to learn once again.”
Lundqvist’s latest INDYCAR opportunity follows a strong showing two weeks ago at the Gallagher Grand Prix, where the Swede – in only his second-ever series start – secured a season-high 12th place finish for the #60 MSR programme.
As he prepares for his oval debut, Lundqvist will be able to draw on four-time Indianapolis 500-winning team-mate Helio Castroneves at World Wide Technology Raceway.
“No doubt it’s going to be tough and tricky, but I know the team will give me a good car,” Linus Lundqvist continues. “We’re aiming for another solid result, building on what we achieved at Indy. I’m also very much looking forward to working with Helio as a team-mate. Working with him on an oval is something that every driver would want to do and I’m just going to learn from it as much as I can this weekend.”
The Bommarito Automotive Group 500 gets underway on Saturday with practice and qualifying, leading up to Sunday’s 260-lap race.
