Linus Lundqvist resumes title push in Formula Regional Americas

Championship leader keen to return to racing
Second half of season begins at Sebring International Raceway
New sponsor Jula to hold prominent branding

He came, he saw, he conquered – but for the last two months, championship leader Linus Lundqvist has been patiently waiting to write the next chapter in Formula Regional Americas. Now, following an extensive mid-season break, the American single-seater series finally resumes at full steam with two crucial back-to-back rounds in Florida.

Starting off the Sunshine State double-header is a visit to Sebring International Raceway this weekend, with the field then making their way south to Homestead-Miami for another dash of racing just one week later.

The season then concludes at Circuit of the Americas in Texas in late October.

For Linus Lundqvist, who has grabbed the headlines so far by winning each of the opening eight races, the resumption of the FR Americas campaign is eagerly anticipated.

The Swede – a debutant in American racing this year – currently leads the way at the top of the standings by 76 points from Indy Lights convert David Malukas, and is obviously keen to extend his unbroken run of victories to kick-start the title run-in.

“I’m extremely excited to get back on track this weekend,” says Linus Lundqvist. “I’ve got a championship lead to defend and, after two months on the sidelines, the competitive spirit is strong. The target is to pick up where we left off before the break, so winning races, but I’m sure our rivals have been pushing hard to close the gap. I certainly take nothing for granted; we still have half the season to go.”

Like every other track on the 2020 schedule, Sebring International Raceway marks a brand new acquaintance for Linus Lundqvist. Home to the massively popular 12 Hours of Sebring sportscar annual, the track is also known for its uneven concrete surface that dictates parts of the lap; a legacy from the venue’s 1940s military air base past.

“I’ve never been to Sebring, but it’s one of the tracks I’ve been looking forward to the most,” Linus Lundqvist explains. “There’s a lot of history and it looks like a lot of fun to drive. I’ve heard about the concrete bit; that will be interesting to tackle! It also appears quite likely to rain, so there are a number of challenges to consider this weekend.”

Starting at Sebring, newly announced sponsor Jula will feature on Linus Lundqvist’s Global Racing Group car, as well as on his helmet and race suit.

Formula Regional Americas springs back to life with two practice sessions on Friday, followed by qualifying and the first of the weekend’s three races on Saturday. Races two and three take place on Sunday.
