After a strong start to the season, Linus Lundqvist returns home this weekend – at least to some extent – as attention shifts to round three of the Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires campaign…
A debut win in the very first race of the season, coupled with a further two podiums from the first four races, has left Lundqvist second in the early championship standings with two rounds completed.
When action resumes this weekend, it does so at Indianapolis Motor Speedway – famously known as the “Racing Capital of the World”, and situated in the heart of the American motorsport industry.
It is also very close to home for Lundqvist, who is based in nearby Carmel during the season and races for the Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports outfit located in neighbouring Brownsburg.

“It will be cool racing at home, basically,” says Linus Lundqvist. “I spend the vast majority of my time in and around Indianapolis, but I have actually never driven at the track. It will be another first this weekend.”
While the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is primarily known for its world-famous oval, which hosts the annual Indy 500, this weekend’s races are staged on the infield road course layout.
The 2.4-mile circuit features a mix of long straights and fast and slow corners, making it a set-up compromise and providing drivers with a wide set of challenges.
“I think the track will suit us fairly well,” Linus Lundqvist continues. “At least on paper, it is quite similar to Barber where we had a really strong car and I got into victory lane. It was great to drive the St. Pete street course, but at the same time it’s nice to be back at a more traditional track. It’s a bit more of a safe ground, I think, and hopefully we’ll be up there once again this weekend.”
Running for Indy Lights gets underway on Thursday with two test sessions and official practice. Friday sees the first qualifying and race of the weekend, with Saturday holding another qualifying/race double to conclude the event.
