- “Roar Before the Rolex 24” heralds start to 60th edition of famed American sports car classic

Linus Lundqvist is set to begin preparations for the 60th edition of the Rolex 24 At Daytona, America’s premier sports car race, at this weekend’s “Roar Before the Rolex 24” test and qualifying days.
Lundqvist, a triple single-seater champion who finished third last year in Indy Lights, returns to Daytona for the second time of his career after first contesting the 24-hour enduro back in 2019.
For his second start in the Florida marathon, Lundqvist teams up with local squad Alegra Motorsports for the prestigious opening round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, slotting into the team’s Mercedes-AMG GT3 Evo.
The Swede will form part of a four-driver line-up that also includes veteran Alegra Motorsports drivers Michael de Quesada (USA) and Daniel Morad (CAN), as well as 2021 DTM champion Maximilian Götz (GER).
The quartet is competing in the GTD category, the largest class in the race with 22 confirmed entries. They will hit the track at Daytona International Speedway for the first time this weekend in the official Roar sessions that traditionally take place in the week before the actual race.

“I’m looking forward to seeing the team and getting down to business this weekend at the Roar,” says Linus Lundqvist. “There’s a lot to do across the next couple of days, and I haven’t even sat in the car yet. It may seem like plenty of track time, but actually it’s very busy and you need to have your priorities right. We have to go through a long list of items, from driver changes and pit stops to fuel numbers, tyre management and getting used to driving at night.”
The Roar consists of four practice sessions (spanning six hours in total), and also covers a two-stage qualifying format to set the grid for next week’s race.
The first qualifying session takes place on Saturday and runs to a traditional time trial system. Lap times will be used to shape the grid for a subsequent Qualifying Race on Sunday, the outcome of which will then set the final grid for the 24-hour contest.
The Qualifying Race runs for 100 minutes, with just a single driver change, which means teams will have to nominate just two of their four drivers for participation. In Alegra Motorsports’ preliminary weekend plan, Lundqvist is slated for one of the Qualifying Race drives.
“I can’t wait to hit the track,” Linus Lundqvist concludes. “This is a big race, and it means a lot to everyone. Hopefully we can do our home work at the Roar and place ourselves in a good seat to go for the win next weekend!”
The Roar Before the Rolex 24 commences on Friday. Live timing will be available online throughout the weekend (see links below), with streaming (of the Qualifying Race only) available in select territories.
