With the final three rounds scheduled in over the nearest month, the 2021 Indy Lights campaign is nearing its conclusion. Stakes are high as INDYCAR’s premier feeder series reaches its home stretch – and Linus Lundqvist is intending to make the most of every remaining opportunity.

Things will begin to properly heat up in the championship race this weekend at Portland International Raceway, a 3.1 km road course located in Oregon in the north-western corner of the U.S. Indy Lights rookie Linus Lundqvist arrives to unknown territory once again, having never sat foot at the venue – yet he is determined to leave a lasting impression.

“We’re getting close to the end of the season, and we’ll get a lot of track time over the next two-three weeks,” says Linus Lundqvist. “I’m definitely ready for it, and more than anything I’m keen to get back onto the podium. Portland is another new track for me, but we’ve got plenty of testing on Friday and I see no reason why we shouldn’t be up there fighting.”

Immediately winning on his Indy Lights debut at Barber Motorsports Park back in April, Lundqvist laid down an instant marker that was soon backed up with another triumph at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Adding a further four podium finishes to his 2021 résumé, the Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports man currently sits third in the standings, despite losing many valuable points through a tyre issue when running a solid second last month at the Gateway oval.

With the championship top three set to receive an INDYCAR test at the conclusion of the season, cementing his position will be key for Lundqvist across the last three events – but the Swede is not planning to go on the defense.

“I want to get back to victory lane,” the 22-year-old assures. “That’s what drives me. We’re third in the points at the moment, which is good, but I’m not really thinking along those lines. I’ll get out there in Portland and push on. If the opportunity to win presents itself, I will not hesitate. Let’s go racing!”

Lundqvist arrives in Portland as the top non-American in the standings, trailing second-placed Kyle Kirkwood by 56 points and leader David Malukas by 59.
