Linus Lundqvist will be back behind the wheel of the #60 Meyer Shank Racing Honda for this weekend’s Gallagher Grand Prix at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, returning to NTT INDYCAR SERIES competition on the back of an impressive debut at the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix.
Lundqvist grabbed the headlines with a commanding performance last weekend on the streets of Nashville, advancing into the Firestone Fast 12 segment of qualifying and going on to set the fastest lap of the race on Sunday.
Although late contact with the wall eventually caused the Swedish rookie to retire, Lundqvist’s highly convincing INDYCAR debut will now be immediately followed by a second outing this weekend at the Gallagher Grand Prix on the IMS road course.
“First, I want to say a massive thank you to Mike (Shank) and Jim (Meyer) for their continued trust to put me back in the car,” says Linus Lundqvist. “The Nashville weekend was great in so many ways. There were obviously a lot of new impressions and things to learn, and I was pretty disappointed with the way it ended. It was my mistake, but I really enjoyed it up until that point.
“I think it also left me and the team wanting more, so I’m really grateful for another opportunity at Indy. I know it’s going to be tough again, but now I have a whole race weekend under my belt. Hopefully we can string some good results together – I’m really looking forward to another weekend racing in INDYCAR.”
From four previous starts on the IMS road course in INDY NXT competition, Lundqvist has started on pole position three times and won twice at the renowned venue.
The Gallagher Grand Prix will mark the NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ second race at the IMS road course this year, with the championship also competing at the track back in May.
Part of the Brickyard weekend that also features NASCAR on the event programme, the Gallagher Grand Prix is a quick two-day affair with practice and qualifying on Friday, and an 85-lap race on Saturday.
