Linus powered to comfortably the fastest time in practice for this weekend’s Laguna Seca Indy Lights finale, setting the pace by over three quarters of a second.
Linus shot to the top of the timesheets with a 1m16.215s, which left him 0.758s clear of second-placed HMD Motorsports team-mate Nolan Siegel, the Californian making his Indy Lights debut on home soil this weekend.
The picture was slightly skewed by a late red flag, however, with Linus and Siegel the only drivers to complete a lap on new tyres while others were interrupted by the stoppage.
Nonetheless, it marks a perfect start for Linus, on a weekend where he is now set to officially clinch the championship title.
LINUS: “It’s a good, strong start. Obviously the times are not representative as Nolan and I were the only ones on new tyres, but it was good to get that lap in. It gives us a small advantage for qualifying with a better read on higher grip. Before we went out on new, it was extremely close up front with four or five guys within a tenth, so it’s going to be close tomorrow – but we’re in the best possible position and I’m really enjoying myself.”
Next up is qualifying, which takes place at 9:30-10:00 am / 18.30-19.00 on Saturday.
