As the winter holiday season approaches, we are taking a trip down memory lane this December to highlight four of Linus’ strongest recollections from the year gone by.
In the first instalment today, on December 1, we recall a powerful Indy Lights debut at Barber Motorsports Park, in which Linus scored an instant flag-to-flag victory at the first time of asking – right before the eyes of the INDYCAR paddock…
What? Indy Lights, Rd. 1, Race 1
Where? Barber Motorsports Park, Alabama
When? 17 April
That win at Barber was a moment I will remember forever. To arrive in Indy Lights and win my very first race, from pole position, was one of my best performances to date. David (Malukas) and Kyle (Kirkwood) started behind me in second and third, but clashed in the first corner, and at the restart I managed to open up a crucial gap to the others.
I eventually won by five-six seconds, and it probably looked like an easy race from the outside. However, with it being my very first proper race run in the car in representative conditions, there was a lot to think about and to control, primarily in terms of managing the Cooper tires.
I felt like that moment at Barber really cemented my position in the paddock. It was a great start for the team as well with myself and Benjamin (Pedersen) taking a 1-2, and then David winning Race 2 on the Sunday with myself in P2. I left Barber leading the championship and I really felt like I had achieved what I set out to do that weekend.
