The test day comes as part of the NTT INDYCAR SERIES’ commitment to driver development through the Road to Indy programme and Combine testing days.
With four INDYCAR SERIES championship titles and five Indy 500 victories, Andretti Autosport is one of the leading teams in the top tier of U.S. single-seater racing.
Owned by Michael Andretti of the famous motorsport dynasty, the eponymous Honda-powered team currently runs four cars in the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, with Lundqvist set to slot into the #26 entry driven to Victory Lane three times this year by Colton Herta.
“It feels great to get this opportunity from INDYCAR and Andretti Autosport,” says Linus Lundqvist. “I’ve spent some time with the team recently and it’s already been very interesting. It’s immensely exciting to think that I will be driving an actual Indy car for the first time only a few days from now. Hopefully I can explore the car for as many laps as possible and look back at a day of great fun and much learning.”
The test marks an important milestone in Lundqvist’s career and takes place at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course – where the Swede clinched a flag-to-flag victory earlier this year in INDYCAR feeder series Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires.
Lundqvist eventually finished third overall in his rookie Indy Lights season, netting him the up-coming prize NTT INDYCAR SERIES test drive.
The 22-year-old Stockholm resident has previously won championship titles in Scandinavia (Formula STCC Nordic), Britain (British F3) and the USA (Formula Regional Americas) on his road to Indy.
The NTT INDYCAR SERIES is one of the fastest forms of motorsport in the world, featuring 700-bhp, 2.2-litre V6 twin-turbo engines and top speeds of nearly 400 km/h. The bespoke tyres are produced by Firestone.
