Racing at the world-renowned “IMS” for the first time of his career, Lundqvist wasted no time shooting to the top of the timesheets, leading the way in Thursday’s test sessions on the venue’s road course layout.
The 22-year-old Swede carried his form into first qualifying on Friday, sealing his second pole position of the season to line up at the front of the field in Race 1.
Once there, Lundqvist was never headed, leading the full distance and setting the fastest lap of the race to underline his pace.
In Saturday’s Race 2, an early off-track excursion dropped Lundqvist out of podium contention from a front-row start, resulting in a P5 finish at the line.
“Race winner at Indianapolis Motor Speedway – that doesn’t sound too bad!” says Linus Lundqvist. “It was the perfect start to the weekend with pole position, fastest lap and the win in the first race. Race 2 didn’t quite go our way, but all in all it has obviously been a very positive weekend on my first experience of this track. Big thanks to my team, as always, for giving me a competitive car once again.“
The outcome in Indianapolis means Lundqvist solidifies second place in the Indy Lights championship standings, where the Swedish rookie now sits 11 points adrift of Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports team-mate David Malukas (USA).
The next Indy Lights round takes place in Detroit on June 12-13.
