Lundqvist clinched a fresh set of podiums in the penultimate round of the Indy Lights season at Laguna Seca, where he took P2 and P3 respectively in the two races staged.
That outcome means series rookie Lundqvist has now cemented third place in the 2021 Indy Lights standings with one round to spare – netting himself one of the INDYCAR award tests handed out to the junior category’s top three.
Lundqvist’s first INDYCAR test will take place on the Indianapolis Motor Speedway road course – where the Swede won from pole earlier this year – on October 29. The team will be announced at a later stage.
“I’m absolutely thrilled to be heading into my first INDYCAR test next month,” says Linus Lundqvist. “It normally doesn’t matter if you finish third, fourth or fifth in a championship, but here it makes a genuine difference, and again that’s what I love with American motorsport. It’s a great opportunity for me to get introduced to the INDYCAR teams and show what I can do. I’m looking forward to taking on a proper test, at a track I know quite well, in one of those incredibly fast cars!”
Lundqvist’s two podiums at Laguna Seca this weekend takes his total tally of 2021 rostrums up into the double digits at ten, including two race victories.
The Indy Lights season concludes at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on October 1-3.
