From second on the grid, Linus maintained his position throughout the 25-lap encounter, eventually finishing just half a second behind pole-starter Kirkwood after increasing the pressure on the multiple American title-winner in the closing laps.
Underscoring his pace, which came on used tyres, Linus recorded a 1m22.453s to set the fastest lap of the race – finally erasing a lap record that has stood since the year 2000.
With P2, Linus also narrows the gap to championship leader David Malukas, who finished fifth.
“It was a good race, definitely happy with that, and I tried to pile the pressure on Kyle in the final laps. We were very evenly matched, however, so I couldn’t find a way past. Still, very good points and a great feeling in the car, so thanks to the entire team for all their hard work. We’re on pole tomorrow, so we’ll go for the win!”
The Detroit weekend concludes on Sunday with Linus on pole position for Race 2.
