Linus found himself locked in a late fight for pole with Andretti Autosport’s Kyle Kirkwood, with both drivers taking turns at the top of the leaderboard in the dying minutes.
Linus eventually slotted into P2, 0.171s down on his American rival, and another tenth clear of third-placed Toby Sowery of Juncos Racing.
The leading trio enjoyed a relatively comfortable gap over the rest of the field, with fourth-placed Alex Peroni three tenths down on Sowery.
After crashing in practice, Linus’ Global Racing Group with HMD Motorsports team-mate David Malukas recovered to take fifth on the grid.
With Friday’s action now wrapped up, Indy Lights returns on Saturday morning with the second qualifying showdown – used to shape the grid for Race 2 – at 9.30 am / 15.30. Live streaming, as always, will be available at www.linuslundqvistracing.se.
