High banks in Florida
Opened in 1959, the Daytona International Speedway is home to two of America’s great races: the Daytona 500 NASCAR event, and the Rolex 24 Hours. The NASCAR race takes place on the full-size tri-oval, while the 24-hour contest uses the same banked oval turns as well as a slower, flat infield section. While taken flat out and broken up by the tricky Bus Stop chicane at the back of the circuit, the 31-degree high banks are notorious triggers of tyre wear, making the Rolex 24 one of the most challenging races around.
