- Swede returns to scene of striking on-debut Indy Lights win
- INDYCAR support series finally back on track after long early-season break
Following a two-month hiatus since the opening round in St. Petersburg, this weekend sees Linus Lundqvist and the rest of the field return to much-awaited racing action as Indy Lights Presented by Cooper Tires finally resumes.
Lundqvist enjoyed a strong start to his sophomore Indy Lights campaign back in Florida in late February, picking up a podium despite a troublesome first lap in the opening race of the season.
As the leading INDYCAR support series springs back to life this weekend for round two of the championship, it does so at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama; a venue strongly linked with bright memories for Linus Lundqvist.
“Barber is one of my favourite tracks, and I think it’s partly because of the results I’ve had there in the past,” says the Swede. “It’s where I made my Indy Lights debut last year, winning from pole in my first-ever start, and in 2020 I managed to win all races there in Formula Regional Americas. That’s the kind of memories that stick with you, and of course I’m aiming for another victory this weekend.”
Adding to his optimism, Lundqvist – racing for HMD Motorsports with Dale Coyne Racing – also recently completed a strong test at Barber Motorsports Park.
The 2.3-mile circuit is located on the outskirts of Birmingham in rural Alabama, winding its way through an undulating landscape and featuring several sweeping high-speed corners that place drivers under significant physical demands.
