- No rest after intense Pau weekend
- Euroformula Open swiftly back on track at German GP course
There’s no time for rest or contemplation for the Euroformula Open fraternity at the moment. Just days after a highly intense and action-packed weekend of racing on the streets of Pau, the field heads north as Germany’s Formula 1 venue Hockenheim beckons – and it’s yet another new acquaintance ahead for Linus Lundqvist.
“I’ve never sat foot at Hockenheim, but it’ll be fun to finally go there this weekend,” says the Double R Racing Swede. “The track is used frequently across all levels of motorsport, so it’s an important place to know. I’ve prepared as best I can in the simulator and checking out onboards. I do feel as ready as I could be.”
Lundqvist sits fifth in the Euroformula Open standings following the opening two rounds of the season, which have both been staged in France. The curtain-raiser took place at Circuit Paul Ricard at the end of April, while the F3-based series’ recent dash around Pau last weekend marked the only street race on the calendar.
“Pau was a special experience in many ways,” Linus Lundqvist continues. “Both in terms of the sheer driving challenge, but also mentally because the outcome wasn’t quite what I was looking for. I’m extremely keen to get back in the car and do a better job at Hockenheim. We’re back on a normal track and it’ll be interesting to see where we are. The aim, as always, is to fight at the front of the pack.”
Hockenheim’s famed Grand Prix layout measures 4.574 km and sports a wide variety of slow, medium-speed and fast corners. The best overtaking opportunity is at the end of the long Parabolica backstretch, where cars brake hard from 250 km/h to negotiate the tight Spitzkehre hairpin.
This weekend’s Euroformula Open meeting kicks off with three 30-minute practice sessions on Friday. The qualifying and races then play out across Saturday and Sunday.
