- Swede delivers Snetterton lights-to-flag victory
- Third win of the year boosts championship momentum
Linus Lundqvist sealed his third British F3 win of the season with a lights-to-flag victory at Snetterton this weekend, resisting main title rival Nicolai Kjaergaard to extend his championship lead.
Lundqvist won the third and final race of the weekend from pole position, adding a third-place finish in Race 1 and P4 effort (from 15th on the reversed grid) in Race 2 to out-score the competition in round three of the campaign.
19-year-old Lundqvist has now won a third of the races staged so far in 2018; the Swede’s rookie season in Formula 3. He now leads the championship by 30 points from Kjaergaard, extending his advantage from 11 pre-weekend.
“Another great weekend and another win in the bag; it’s just fantastic,” says Linus Lundqvist. “The words on my lips today are “team work”. Big thanks to all the guys at Double R Racing – we have won races at each of the tracks we’ve been to so far this year, and I think that says a lot about the strength of our package. I’m feeling more and more at home in the car with every lap I do, and I’m pleased to come away from here having stretched my lead in the championship.”
Lundqvist’s pace over the Snetterton event was highlighted by regular chart-topping performances, including setting the quickest time in both Thursday’s pre-weekend test and in official free practice on Friday.
Lundqvist also recorded the Sunoco Fastest Lap in the opening race on Saturday, which he completed in third, before storming through the field from 15th on the reversed grid of Race 2 to finish just half a second off the podium in fourth.
His win in Race 3 then came from pole position, with Lundqvist leading from start to finish as he fought off fellow front-row starter Kjaergaard.
The next round of the BRDC British F3 Championship takes place at Silverstone on June 8-10.
